Mustard Seed Faith

steep-mountain

My family and I are on our first family vacation since my fifth blessing was born over three years ago. My parents gave us a gift at a resort in Northern Michigan. Our family of eight are comfortably enjoying our cozy little space. 🙂 We did our grocery shopping for the week and we are hanging out enjoying our family time together. We are playing games, taking walks, watching movies, and eating every meal together. We are building memories and savoring every minute we have together. Thank you Mom and Dad! We needed this!

Yesterday, my three-year old son and I took a hike up a steep skiing hill. Honestly, as I approached what seemed to be a mountain, I was so scared to take the trek up. It was steep, unsteady ground, and I wasn’t sure I could endure the hike. As we approached the hill, my son said “Mommy, I don’t have a good feeling about this.” At the first opportunity to give up, I said “We don’t have to do this son.” Then he replied, “Let’s do it, mom. We can hold hands and do it together.” And so we did. That little voice and that little hand reaching for mine was all I needed to motivate me to overcome the fear I faced when I looked at that mountain ahead of me.

God's hand-baby

As I hiked up the “mountain,” I looked up ahead and I panicked wondering if I had enough energy, stamina, and strength to make it to the top. Will I be able to make it without falling? Can I protect my son if he falls down? My heart started pumping faster and faster. I had my hand on the small of my son’s back as we continued up the hill. I was overwhelmed with fear and I thought “Is this really worth it?” But then my son said, “Mom, thank you for protecting me. You are my super hero.” And that, my friends, gave me the boost I needed to put my fear aside keep going.

When we got to the top, the view was breath taking. It was so beautiful. I stood there holding my son in complete amazement. “We did it son! We did it together.” “Yes, mom, we did it together.” That moment was priceless! It was so worth it!

On my journey up the mountain, I thought about the mountains we face in our lives on a daily basis. We try to face the mountains on our own, forgetting that God is there to hold our hand and walk the journey with us. When you are hiking up the mountain and you feel like giving up, listen for the the still, small voice telling you “Be not afraid. I am with you. I will not forsake you. Trust in me with all your heart. You can do all things through me.”

Will you have faith as small as a mustard seed believing that God will help you overcome the mountains you face in life? Will you believe that nothing is impossible with God?

As we raise money for missions in Guatemala, Tomahawk, and The MarcJaiden Project, I have faced many mountains. Some have been hard to overcome. I have to remember to have faith even when it is hard to see past the mountain before me. Through faith, prayer and supplication, God has always come through. God is faithful! It is an extra blessing when we have someone to walk the journey with us, like my son walking up the mountain with me. I welcome your support in prayer as I follow my heart for missions. I welcome your support in taking my hand and helping me overcome the mountains I encounter.

Today, as I set up our fund raiser for Guatemala (Just donating a wee bit of vacation time for a mission I started before we left), I was deeply encouraged when we received our first $10 donation within minutes of publication. I am praising God for that much needed encouragement and I continue to believe that we will accomplish this goal together. You and me. Come walk this journey with me. Believe that the mountains you face can be overcome when you have faith as small as a mustard seed. Yes, my friend, YOU CAN MOVE MOUNTAINS!

He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Matthew 17:20

Help us raise $300 for our missionaries in Guatemala. $5 from 60 people will get us to our goal. Spread the word and let’s accomplish this goal together. Thank you from the depths of my heart!

  1. Dear one, I feel this scripture is for you, replacing Zerubbabel with your own name. You are a blessing and a living example for the LORD and you have not despised the small things as you have worked on sanctifying yourself and your family unto Him.
    Much love and appreciation! :)A

    Zech 4:6-10:
Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts. Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it. Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also finish it; and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto you. For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth.

    1. Oh! I am speechless! I can’t tell you how timely this message is to me. Thank you so much for taking the time to share this with me. Thank you so much. I appreciate your heart and your kindness and encouragement. You have touched my heart in places that needed to experience the the faith of a true believer that knows what our God can do when we say “yes” to Him. I will reference this scripture when the mountains come so that I will remember that God sent an angel to remind me that no mountain is too big for our God. Your obedience to our Father has greatly blessed me. Thank you my friend. May God Bless you richly. Blessings.
