When we started our gluten-free journey, I didn’t even know where to begin. I was very overwhelmed and frustrated. A wonderful friend of mine recommended a few websites to help me get started. From there, I explored different gluten-free websites to identify my gluten-free preferences. I experimented, converted gluten recipes to gluten-free, and created many of my own recipes. There is a lot of information out there, so try to keep it simple. Once you get into your gluten-free groove, let the experimenting begin!!!
Some of My Favs
Here are some of the blogs/websites that inspired me on my journey. Hopefully you will find some helpful information, great recipes, and inspiration for your gluten-free journey:
Gluten-Free and More – Subscribe to this website and receive recipes, information on new gluten-free products, and other helpful information about living gluten-free. They also have a wonderful magazine filled with great recipes, new products, and tips.
Barefeet in the Kitchen – This is my all time favorite website. Mary’s recipes are full of flavor with beautiful pictures. Her site gave me great hope as I began my gluten-free journey. I have a binder full of her recipes. I have adapted her recipes using my DIY flour blends and reducing sugar to meet our family’s needs and tastes. You can sign up to have recipes delivered directly to your inbox. Her first cookbook “The Weeknight Dinner Cookbook: Simple Family-friendly Recipes for Everyday Cooking” comes out in August 2016!
Elana’s Pantry – Elana follows a Paleo diet and has very simple recipes that are low-glycemic. She also provides information on health and wellness. I have adapted some of her recipes to accommodate our family’s palate (e.g., Grain-Free Chocolate Coconut Scookies). Check out one of her many cookbooks. My favorite is “Gluten-Free Cupcakes“.
Brittany Angell – Brittany has mostly Paleo recipes but not as strict as Elana. She also focuses on other allergy-free cooking and baking (e.g., diary-free, soy-free, etc.). I like her Paleo pizza crust and I have adapted some of her recipes. Check out her cookbook “Every Last Crumb.”
Gluten-Free on a Shoestring – Nicole comes up with some great recipes. Her goal is to make anything that has gluten into a tasty gluten-free version on a budget! I like browsing through her website to see what I can adapt into a “healthier” gluten-free recipe. I have used my all-purpose flour blend and protein flour blend for some of her recipes and reduced the sugar with great success. She also has Paleo and diary-free recipes. Check out one of her many cookbooks.
enJOY!
