Pleasant words are as sweet as honeycomb, sweet to the soul and health to the bones. Proverbs 16:24
For school, our verse for the week was Proverbs 25:25. We focused on how our words can be used to hurt or bring life. On Thursday, my mom’s group topic covered how our words can cut like a knife especially to those we love. I feel the Lord is putting it on my heart to be more intentional about speaking life.
We may not realize how hurtful our words really are to those around us, especially to ourselves. We may condemn our children’s behaviors without providing encouragement. We may point out the mistakes in other’s work but fail to see the good. We often are our own worst critic and we condemn ourselves, compare ourselves to others, and beat ourselves up despite all the accomplishments we achieve. But when we fill our hearts and fill others with pleasing words, we can completely change the outcomes of our day and even our health!
Just think for a moment. How did you feel the last time someone said something positive to you? It is a wonderful feeling! I challenge you to speak life into your heart each day based on God’s promises (e.g., I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength). And when you are faced with a difficult encounter, keep calm and take a moment to ask the Holy Spirit to guide your words. Choose to speak life to those around you.
